Album cover with cowboy on glowing path toward a cross at sunset, titled ALIVE in Christ; Galatians 2:20, Curt Brickley.

There is only one Gospel. Not a gospel of striving, not a gospel of performance, not a gospel of trying harder or being better. There is only the Gospel of Jesus Christ—grace received, not earned. From darkness to light. From bondage to freedom. From fear to faith. This is what it means to be alive in Christ.

Alive in Christ is a Christian Country anthem that declares the liberating truth of the Gospel. It’s a reminder that righteousness isn’t achieved through effort—it’s received through surrender. This song is for anyone who has ever felt exhausted trying to earn what Jesus already accomplished on the cross.

Personal Reflection

Alive in ChristCurt Brickley

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. Those words from Galatians 2:20 shaped the life and teaching of my late mentor, Dr. Wayne Barber. He was a faithful man of God who championed grace over performance and taught the Word with clarity and conviction. His life left a deep mark on mine, and the convictions behind this song flow straight from that legacy.

Too many of us live like we’re still trying to earn God’s favor. We carry the weight of religion when Jesus offers relationship. We strive when we should rest. We perform when we should simply believe. But the Gospel is clear: we were dead in our sins, and now we are alive in Christ. The old life was nailed to the cross. The new life is powered by His Spirit living in us.

This song is my declaration and my prayer. Christ in me—that’s my only hope. Not my good days. Not my best efforts. Just Jesus. Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.

Theme

Alive in Christ is a bold celebration of the one true Gospel and the freedom that comes when we stop striving and start trusting in what Jesus has already done.

This song reminds us:

  • Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

  • The old self was crucified with Christ; the new life is lived by His power.

  • Righteousness is received, not earned.

  • True freedom is found only in Jesus.

  • Christ lives in every believer who surrenders to Him.

Scripture Foundation

  • “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” — Galatians 2:20

  • “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel… there is no other.” — Galatians 1:6-9

  • “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” — Galatians 5:1

  • “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” — Ephesians 2:8-9

  • “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” — John 8:36

  • “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

Processing Questions

Take a few moments and reflect:

  1. Where in your life are you still trying to earn what Jesus already gave you?

  2. Have you been living in the freedom of the Gospel or carrying the weight of performance?

  3. What would it look like to truly let Christ live His life through you?

  4. How has the one true Gospel changed your story?

  5. Who needs to hear this message of grace and freedom from you today?

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for the one true Gospel. Thank You that salvation is not based on my performance but on Your grace. Thank You for crucifying my old life with Christ and making me alive in Him.

Forgive me for the times I return to striving and self-reliance. Create in me a heart that rests in what Jesus has already done. Let Christ live in me so fully that others see Him instead of me. Restore my joy, renew my freedom, and use my life for Your glory.

I stand in awe that I am alive in Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Closing

The old is gone. The new has come. You are not what you do. You are who Christ says you are.

Alive in Christ. Free indeed. This is the Gospel. And it is enough.
