How Did You Know My Name?

How many people know your name?
Your family knows your name. Friends know your name. Coworkers know your name. Maybe your neighbors know your name. But knowing someone's name and truly knowing someone are not the same thing.
Many people spend their lives feeling unseen, forgotten, overlooked, or misunderstood. They wonder if anyone really knows their struggles, fears, disappointments, hopes, and dreams. They wonder if anyone truly sees them.
Yet Scripture reveals a remarkable truth: before anyone else knew us, God knew us. Before we ever spoke His name, He knew ours.
Personal Reflection
One of the things I love most about children is their ability to see profound truths hidden in plain sight. They often ask questions adults no longer think to ask.
The inspiration behind this song comes from a simple question spoken through the innocent perspective of a child:
"Our Father who art in Heaven, how did You know my name?"
At first, the question makes us smile. But the more we think about it, the more profound it becomes.
How does God know our names? How does the Creator of the universe know every detail about every person who has ever lived? How does He know every burden we carry, every prayer we whisper, every tear we cry?
The answer is found in His nature. God is not distant. He is not detached from His creation. He is a loving Father who knows His children intimately. The older I get, the more comforting that truth becomes.
People may misunderstand us. Friends may leave. Loved ones may pass away. Seasons change. Circumstances change. Yet there has never been a moment when God did not know exactly where we were, what we needed, and what He was accomplishing in our lives.
Long before we knew Him, He knew us.
Long before we loved Him, He loved us.
Long before we called upon Him, He knew our name.
That truth gave birth to this song.
Theme
How Did You Know My Name? is a song about the intimate, personal love of our Heavenly Father.
It reminds us that we are never unseen, never forgotten, and never beyond the reach of God's knowing and caring heart. The same God who numbers the stars knows every detail of our lives and calls us by name.
This song reminds us:
God knows you personally and completely.
You are never forgotten, overlooked, or unseen.
The Shepherd still calls His sheep by name.
The God of Heaven invites you to know Him as Father.
The One who knows your name also knows your need.

"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine." — Isaiah 43:1
"For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known." — 1 Corinthians 13:12
Processing Questions
Take a few moments and reflect:
Have there been seasons when you felt unseen or forgotten?
What changes when you remember that God knows you completely and loves you fully?
Are there burdens you have been carrying as though God is unaware of them?
How does knowing that God calls His sheep by name affect the way you view your relationship with Him?
What would it look like to live today as someone fully known and fully loved by God?
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for knowing me. Thank You that I have never been hidden from Your sight or forgotten by Your heart. You knew me before I drew my first breath. You know every struggle I face today. You know every fear, every failure, every need, and every hope. Help me to rest in the truth that I am fully known and fully loved through Jesus Christ.
When I feel unseen, remind me that You see me. When I feel forgotten, remind me that You know my name. When I feel alone, remind me that You are near. Thank You for calling me Your own and for leading me as my Good Shepherd.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
Closing
The world may know your name, or it may not. But the God who created the heavens and the earth knows you completely.
He knows your story. He knows your struggles. He knows your need.
And He knows your name.
Rest in that truth today.
