Album cover for Curt Brickley’s Trust Me, showing a barefoot figure walking through water at sunset with fiery orange text and clouds

There are seasons when faith feels strong. And there are seasons when faith feels

exhausted. Seasons when prayers come easily, and seasons when every prayer feels like it bounces off a silent sky. Most believers know both.

The longer you walk with God, the more you discover that trust is not built when life makes sense. Trust is built when it doesn't. Trust is forged in hospital rooms, gravesides, broken dreams, unanswered prayers, and long nights when heaven feels quiet. This song lives in that tension. The space between God's promises and our understanding. The place where faith whispers, “I don’t understand… but I still trust You.”

Personal Reflection

Trust MeCurt Brickley

I've lived long enough to know that some questions don't get immediate answers. I've known pain. I've known loss. I've known disappointment. I've watched plans collapse and dreams fall apart. I've stood in places where I genuinely wondered what God was doing and why He seemed silent.

Some of the hardest seasons of life aren't the ones filled with obvious tragedy. Sometimes the hardest seasons are the ones where you're still breathing, still praying, still believing—but nothing seems to be changing. You know what God says. You know His promises. You know the verses. But your circumstances tell a different story.

That's where this song was born. The story of Joseph has always spoken deeply to me. Betrayed by his brothers. Sold into slavery. Falsely accused. Forgotten in prison. Years of suffering that made no sense in the moment. Yet at the end of his story he could say, “What you meant for evil, God meant for good.” Joseph couldn't see that truth while sitting in the dungeon. He only saw it looking backward.

Job experienced something similar. He lost his children. His wealth. His health. His reputation. He asked questions that seemed to echo into silence. Yet through it all, God was still present, still sovereign, still working. Most of us want the ending before we're willing to trust the Author. But faith doesn't work that way. Faith trusts before the answer arrives.

Looking back over my own life, I've seen God do exactly what this song describes. I've watched Him bring songs out of suffering. Purpose out of pain. Growth out of loss. Strength out of weakness. What looked like devastation at the time eventually became part of a larger story I could not yet see. That's not because suffering is good. It's because God is. The enemy still means harm. But God still redeems. And He has never stopped working. Not for a single moment.

Theme

Trust Me is a song about God's sovereignty in the middle of suffering. It is not a song that explains pain. It is a song that points beyond it.

The central truth of this song is simple: God is working even when His work is invisible. He is moving even when He seems silent. He is writing a story even when we can only see a single page. Joseph didn't understand the prison. Job didn't understand the ashes. We often don't understand our circumstances either.

But trust is not confidence in the outcome. Trust is confidence in God's character.

This song reminds us:

  • God is still working when we cannot see Him working.

  • What the enemy intends for harm, God can redeem for good.

  • Faith often grows strongest in seasons of unanswered questions.

  • God's silence is not His absence.

  • Trust begins where understanding ends.

Scripture Foundation

  • “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” — Genesis 50:20

  • “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” — Romans 8:28

  • “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” — Proverbs 3:5-6

  • “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.” — Isaiah 55:8-9

  • “We walk by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7

  • “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” — Hebrews 11:1

  • “Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

Processing Questions

Take a few moments and reflect:

  1. Where in your life right now does trust feel hardest?

  2. What “prison” or “ash heap” are you walking through that doesn’t make sense yet?

  3. Have you been demanding answers instead of resting in God’s character?

  4. Looking back, where can you already see God redeeming something painful?

  5. What would trusting Him for one more day look like this week?

Prayer

Father,

Some days I trust You easily. Other days it feels like I’m hanging on by a thread. You see the questions I’m afraid to speak out loud. You know the places where I’m tired of waiting and wondering.

Thank You for never turning away from my honest struggle. Thank You that even when I can’t see what You’re doing, You are still working. Help me trust Your heart when I can’t trace Your hand. Give me the strength to keep believing when everything in me wants to quit. Remind me that You are writing a story much bigger than this chapter.

I choose today to say, “I don’t understand… but I still trust You.” Hold me close in the silence. Carry me through the questions. And when I can’t see tomorrow, help me rest in the fact that You already can. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Closing

Trust was never meant to be easy. It was meant to be real.

Joseph made it out of the prison. Job received restoration. And you will make it through this season too—not because your circumstances always change on your timeline, but because the God who holds every tomorrow is faithful.

The enemy meant harm. But God is still meaning it for good.

So keep trusting. Even when the sky is silent. Even when the road is long. Even when you don’t understand.

Trust Me. He’s still working. And He’s never once let go.
