Album cover with orange text FREE AT LAST and airplane window showing lightning over dark sea; Curt Brickley

There are moments when faith stops being theoretical. One brutal, lightning-filled night, I

was on a small regional aircraft coming into Nairobi. The storm was intense—heavy rain, strong crosswinds, violent turbulence. The plane was pitching, rolling, drifting sideways as the pilots fought to keep us in the air. For about thirty minutes before landing, it felt like the aircraft was being hurled through the sky.

A few minutes into the turbulence, a sobering thought crossed my mind: What if this is it? What if I only had a few minutes to share the Gospel before we went down? Then another question followed immediately: How quickly could I walk someone through the Bible—from Creation to the Cross? Not theology. Not denominational detail. Just the truth.

That night, somewhere over Africa, “Through the Bible in 60 Seconds” was born. Over the years it became a Christmas tradition in our home. My kids and I would take turns, cue the stopwatch, and see who could get through it the fastest—Creation to the Cross, sixty seconds flat.

Personal Reflection

Free at LastCurt Brickley

Free at Last carries that same urgency. It’s a gospel-driven spoken-word testimony that traces the story of redemption from Genesis to the Cross—and straight into freedom. From “In the beginning was the Word” to “Thank You Jesus, I’m free at last,” this track walks through creation, the fall, the law, the cross, and the resurrection—plain, bold, and unapologetic.

This isn’t religion dressed up as poetry. It’s the Word made flesh. God becoming man. Sin defeated. Death overruled. No metaphors to soften it. No filters to make it comfortable. Jesus is Lord. Salvation is in Him. And freedom isn’t earned—it’s given.

If you’ve ever wondered why grace had to be costly… or why truth still matters… or why freedom starts at the cross—this one’s for you. The Gospel isn’t complicated—it’s costly. It isn’t soft—it’s saving. And it doesn’t wait for perfect timing.

Freedom doesn’t come from knowing about God. It comes from knowing Jesus.

Theme

Free at Last is a bold, Scripture-packed testimony of the Gospel in motion. It’s the story of redemption told straight—no detours, no excuses.

This song reminds us:

  • The Word became flesh and stepped into our brokenness.

  • Sin entered, but God had a plan from the beginning.

  • The law revealed our need, but only Jesus could meet it.

  • The cross defeated sin and death once and for all.

  • True freedom is found only in Christ.

Scripture Foundation

  • “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” — John 1:1, 14

  • “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” — John 3:16

  • “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23

  • “But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8

  • “He himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.” — 1 Peter 2:24

  • “He is not here, for He has risen, as He said.” — Matthew 28:6

  • “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” — John 8:36

Processing Questions

Take a few moments and reflect:

  1. How would you tell the Gospel story from Creation to the Cross in sixty seconds?

  2. Where in your life do you still need to experience the freedom Christ offers?

  3. Have you been trying to earn what Jesus already gave you?

  4. Who in your life needs to hear this simple, powerful truth today?

  5. What would living “free at last” look like for you this week?

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for the greatest story ever told—the story of Your relentless love. Thank You for sending Jesus, the Word who became flesh, to rescue us from sin and death. Thank You that freedom isn’t something we earn but something You give.

Help me live in the freedom of the cross. When I forget the story, bring it back to me. When I feel chained by guilt or shame, remind me I am free indeed. Give me boldness to share this good news—plain, bold, and unapologetic—just like Jesus lived it.

Thank You, Jesus. I’m free at last. In Your name, Amen.

Closing

The plane landed safely that night in Nairobi. But the question still remains: If you only had sixty seconds, could you tell the story?

From the beginning to the end, it was always His plan. The Word became flesh. God became man. Death couldn’t stand. Sin couldn’t win.

Jesus is Lord. Salvation is in Him.

Once and for all… Thank You Jesus—I’m free at last.
